Better safe than sorry: life in pile dwellings

As early as 4,300 years before Christ, our ancestors built pile dwellings on the shore and in the water of Lake Constance. Stone Age people have begun construction. The Stone Age is the longest lasting epoch in human history: it is said that it began over 2 million years ago and ended only about 2000 years before Christ. Around this time, people began to make devices and weapons with metal – that’s why this period is called the “Bronze Age”. How people lived back then, what they hunted and cooked and why they lived in pile dwellings on the water – you can find out all this during the adventure tour in the pile dwelling museum in Unteruhldingen.

Finally, the exhibition “The Heritage of the Pile Dwellers” features over 1,000 original finds from the sunken World Heritage sites.
And after the tour, everyone will make their own buzz wood – a real Stone Age instrument.
